MANILA (UPDATED) -- The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) observed "very minimal and unnoticeable oil sheens" in the shorelines of Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, and Cavite after conducting an aerial survey on Tuesday.

The aerial survey was done in the wake of the sinking of the MT Terra Nova last week, which caused oil to leak into the Manila Bay.

"Clear waters along the coastlines," said PCG Commandant Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan. "Walang nakitang any signs of oil spill, except for very, very thin na pockets na halos hindi makita."

The UP Marine Science Institute previously said that the oil slick may reach Metro Manila, but the PCG said this was not the case.

"As of today, nakita natin walang oil sheen going towards Manila. Clear po 'yung dagat," said Gavan. "'Yung report din kahapon na mayroon sa South Traffic Separation Scheme ng Corregidor, wala na rin. Pati 'yung sa Bulacan, wala na rin."

The PCG maintains the situation is under control, although the oil spill has impacted the fishers in Limay, Bataan where a fishing ban is currently in place.

On Monday, divers successfully plugged the leaking valves of the sunken oil tanker near the waters of Limay town in Bataan.

Salvage company Harbor Star Shipping Services sealed 12 pressure vacuum relief valves of MT Terra Nova, four of which had been leaking, said Atty. Leonell Mojal-Infante, spokesperson of the Portavaga Ship Management Inc., the owner of the sunken tanker.

MT Terra Nova sank amidst bad weather last Thursday, killing one crew member.

According to the International Tanker Owners Pollution Federation Limited (ITOPF), social media reports showcasing videos and pictures of oil sheen/oil spill were unindicative to the actual aerial view.
