MANILA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s family this week celebrated the birthday of his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos. 

First Lady Liza Marcos on Wednesday shared on social media photos of the birthday celebration of her mother-in-law, who turned 95 years old on Tuesday.

“Happy 95th birthday, Mama Meldy!!” the First Lady said in the caption.

The Palace previously said the Marcos family would mark its matriarch’s birthday with “a quiet celebration with family and friends.” 

The. President earlier took to social media to greet his mother a happy birthday.

“Happy, happy birthday mom. Thank you for teaching me and your grandchildren to be gracious, kind and compassionate,” he said.

Born on July 2, 1929, Imelda Marcos is the Philippines' longest serving first lady, having held the position for more than two decades during the rule of her husband Ferdinand Marcos Sr. from 1965 until his ouster in the 1986 People Power Revolution.

Upon her return from exile in Hawaii, she became active in politics again with her children, having served as a congresswoman representing Leyte from 1995 to 1998, and later representing Ilocos Norte from 2010 to 2019.

The former First Lady was briefly hospitalized for pneumonia last March.
