The local government of Quezon City is continuing its cleanup of mounds of garbage left behind by massive floods during the typhoon-enhanced habagat last Wednesday.

Last Friday, the Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works did  round-the-clock cleanup of the bridge along E. Rodriguez Avenue and its surrounding areas after the floods left tons of garbage in the vicinity, causing heavy traffic.

On Monday, elements of the QC engineering and sanitation departments continued cleanup works at Kaliraya Street in Barangay Tatalon cor. G. Araneta Avenue and Lorraine Street Parkway Village in Barangay Apolonio Samson.

Video posted on the Quezon City official Facebook page showed the engineering department using bulldozers and backhoes to haul the garbage quickly.

A car that was submerged in Crame Creek during the height of the floods was also lifted out of the water.

Similar cleanup operations were also conducted in Tagumpay Village in Barangay Bagong Silangan, Masambong High School, Barangay Masambong, West Riverside corner Del Monte, Barangay San Antonio, and other areas.

The QC Engineering Department also conducted declogging operations at San Gabriel Street in Barangay Batasan Hills to clean out garbage in line canals.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte visited Barangay Nagkaisang Nayon and Barangay San Bartolome to check on residents who lost their homes during last week’s deluge. This, after a retaining wall collapsed during the floods, which led to the destruction of several homes near the bridge.

The local government also warned the public about the threat of leptospirosis after the QC Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit recorded 72 leptospirosis cases from January 1 to July 20, 2024.

At least 10 people from Districts 2, 3, 5, and 6 have died of leptospirosis during the same period.
