Students going to their first day of school for SY 2024-2025 faced a thunderstorm in Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon Monday.

Video taken by ABS-CBN reporter Paige Javier showed grade school pupils of Kapitbahayan Elementary School in Navotas using umbrellas to protect themselves from the rain. A total of 22 schools in Navotas are set to start classes today. 

Rain was also reported in parts of Batangas while students trooped to school, according to TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

Weather bureau PAGASA issued a thunderstorm warning at 5:56 a.m. Monday, predicting moderate to heavy rainshowers with lightning and strong winds  over Zambales, Bataan and Quezon within the next 2 hours.

Weather forecaster Veronica Torres said inclement weather will be experienced in Metro Manila(Muntinlupa, Las Pinas), Laguna(San Pedro, Cabuyao, Santa Rosa, Binan), Rizal(Binangonan, Cardona) and Cavite(Bacoor, Imus, Dasmarinas, Gen. Mariano Alvarez, Carmona).

PAGASA said the southwest monsoon will continue to bring rain to Metro Manila and parts of Luzon this Monday even as a low pressure area moves further away from the country. 

As of 3 a.m., the low pressure area was estimated based on all available data at 220 km Northeast of Aparri, Cagayan.

Ilocos Region, Benguet, Abra, Zambales, and Bataan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms while Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Central Luzon will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
