MANILA – Several electrical wires at a residential area were damaged after the sudden collapse of a covered court in Navotas City due to strong wind and rains on Tuesday.

Residents said the roof of the court in Pantay-Pantay Street, Barangay Tangos South gave way at 11 a.m.

No one was injured and no other structure was affected, barangay authorities said.

One resident, Mike Angelo Paña, said they had been worried about the stability of the structure since Monday because of the bad weather.

“May mga tukod po ‘yan bumagsak po lahat ng tukod. Pagkabagsak ng tukod, hindi po siya kaagad bumagsak. So maya-maya po mga alas-onse po, naramdaman na po ng mga residente…na parang may mga lumalangitngit po,” Paña said.

(There were braces in place to support the roof. They fell, but the roof did not yet cave. Later at around 11, the residents felt what seemed like creaking.)

“Ang ikinababahala po yung live wire na kuryente po ng mga residente po, buti po nung bumagsak po, brownout po.”

(Residents were concerned about the live wire but fortunately when the roof collapsed, there was no electricity.)

Barangay Tangos South Chairman Jojo Miller said the covered court was set to be repaired in 2025.

The local government has sent personnel to monitor the situation and ensure no one could get near the affected area.

A team leader of the Navotas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office told ABS-CBN News they are requesting Meralco to turn off the main switches connected to the live wires and conduct repairs.

Extreme weather brought by the habagat caused flooding and damage to property in various areas of Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
