MANILA — A China Coast Guard vessel conducted an “intrusive patrol” just 60 nautical miles off Lubang Island in Mindoro province, the Philippine Navy said Tuesday.

Navy spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad said the Philippine Coast Guard, Naval Forces Northern Luzon, and Naval Forces West have all been informed about the vessel's transit.

"The Philippine Navy monitors the expanse of our EEZ. We are aware of the presence of the Chinese Coast Guard vessel that transited 60 nautical miles west of mainland Luzon," Trinidad said.

Former US Air Force official and Defence Attaché Ray Powell, director of South China Sea monitor SeaLight, earlier reported the presence of a 135-meter CCG vessel with bow number 5303 conducting an “intrusive patrol” in the Philippine waters at about 4 p.m. on Sunday.

Trinidad said the Philippines side issued a radio challenge to the Chinese vessel, but it did not respond.

Meanwhile, CCG’s massive ship, dubbed “The Monster,” has already left Escoda Shoal and is no longer in Philippines' exclusive economic zone, according to Trinidad.

But at least 104 Chinese coast guard, maritime militia, and People’s Liberation Army Navy vessels maintained its presence in Philippine waters, including Bajo de Masinloc, Ayungin Shoal, Pag-asa Island, Kota Island, Lawak Island, Panata Island, and Iroquiois Reef, from July 9 to 15. It was up by 10 compared to 94 vessels monitored a week before.
