MANILA — The Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) gathered for the State of Humane Rights Address (SOHRA) on Tuesday, July 16, in anticipation of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) next week.

Under the theme “Unahin ang Karapatan, Katarungan, at Kagalingan ng Mamamayan! Hindi Cha-Cha! Hindi Gera! Hindi Trapo at Dinastiya!”, PAHRA stressed the importance of prioritizing human rights, justice, and public welfare over constitutional changes, conflict, and political dynasties.

Representatives from various groups and non-governmental organizations including Alyansa ng Manggagawa Agrikultura (AMA), Kongreso ng Pagkakaisa ng Maralitang Lungsod, Alyansa ng Maralitang Pilipino (AMP), Partido Manggagawa, and the Center for Migrant Advocacy (CMA) gathered to discuss pressing agricultural concerns, issues on adequate housing for the homeless and underprivileged, labor rights, overseas Filipino workers’ welfare, and other socio-economic challenges.

Simbulan also mentioned PAHRA members, allies, and supporters calling for a unified action to advance human rights during President Marcos Jr.’s third SONA on July 22. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in advocating for the rights of Filipino citizens amidst ongoing societal challenges.
