The Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) on Thursday announced it has secured a freeze order from the Court of Appeals for the assets of individuals and companies allegedly involved in illegal Philippine offshore gaming operations.

Included in AMLC’s petition are assets of suspended Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, Zhiyang Huang, and Baoying Lin, who are involved with the companies Zun Yuan Technology Inc., BAOFU Land Development Inc., and Hongsheng Gaming Technology Inc.

The freeze order approved by the Court of Appeals encompasses 90 bank accounts across 14 financial institutions, several real properties and high-value personal properties such as luxury vehicles and a helicopter.

Guo and the other individuals identified in the petition are linked to illicit activities in the raided POGO hub in Bamban.

ARREST SOUGHT

A Senate panel on Wednesday cited in contempt Guo after she failed to show up in their investigation due to medical reasons.

"The chair rules to cite in contempt Alice Guo, or Guo Hua Ping, and for [the issuance of a] warrant of arrest [against her]," Sen. Risa Hontiveros said, approving the motion of Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada.

The senators found unacceptable Guo's excuse of deteriorating mental health as the reason for her absence.

Hontiveros noted Guo's letter asking that she be excused from the hearing had no attached medical certificate from a licensed physician.

In her letter, Guo said medical doctors had refused to give her a medical certificate because they would be subjected to the same ridicule she endured.

Aside from Guo, 7 other individuals were also cited in contempt. These include some of Guo's alleged relatives and those linked to the illegal POGO in Porac, Pampanga.

MANILA — The Department of Migrant Workers said Monday it would assist families of OFWs who have been affected by the delayed shipment of thousands of Balikbayan boxes to the Philippines.

“They have been victimized, and we will provide action fund assistance as well,” DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said in a televised briefing.

The DMW has been working closely with the Bureau of Customs to facilitate the release of the estimated 14,000 Balikbayan boxes, he said.

“Sa ngayon nakikipagtulungan tayo sa Bureau of Customs. We are thankful sa BOC dahil na-facilitate na ang release ng 9,000 boxes. But there are around 5,000 more to go, half of them are in the Davao port. We are thankful sa BOC, may deed of donation na ido-donate sa atin at tayo na ang magdi-distribute, so isasagawa natin yon,” he said.

“Dito sa Manila, we are working on the same deed of donation system, pero ang maganda dahil sa hearing noong isang araw, nakita natin na pwede pala yung system na puntahan mo nalang sa warehouse, around 40 boxes were released the other day. This will be just the beginning of the continued distribution, so 9,000 now, 5,000 more to go," he added.
