MANILA -- The camp of suspended Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo said Tuesday they would file a motion to lift her suspension.

"Papatunayan namin, hindi malakas ‘yung ebidensya. In fact, wala ngang ebidensiya," Guo's lawyer Stephen David told Teleradyo Serbisyo.

(We will prove that the evidence is not strong. In fact, there is no evidence.)

The Office of the Ombudsman on Monday placed Guo and several Bamban officials on preventive suspension of up to six months pending the results of an investigation on a complaint filed by the Department of the Interior and Local Government over the alleged illegal activities at a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator complex in the town.

According to Ombudsman Samuel Martires, the suspension was ordered to prevent any interference in the investigation.

"In the meantime na nag-iimbestiga kami, we have to preventively suspend her together with the business permit and licensing officer saka yung legal officer," he said.

"Itong administrative naman, kung makikita namin na talagang may violation, talagang guilty siya, eh di papatawan namin ng karampatang parusa," Martires added.

He said the evidence against Guo was strong, and it was up to the mayor to prove her innocence. He said Guo might be removed as mayor if found guilty.

In a statement, Guo said she would cooperate with authorities.

"Ako po ay sumasang-ayon sa proseso ng batas, at tinatanggap ang pasya ng Ombudsman, pero ilalaban ko ang aking kaso," she said.

(I am complying with the legal process and accept the Ombudsman's decision, but I will fight this case.)

She also thanked her supporters, saying they have given her confidence to face the complaints filed against her.

"Nais ko ring iparating na wala akong kasalanan at tapat akong nagsilbi sa ating bayan at mamamayan," Guo said.
