MANILA -- Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has asked the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) to fast track its investigation of Bamban, Tarlac Mayor Alice Guo, whom he accuses of being a Chinese national. 

The OSG is determining if there are grounds to file a quo warranto case against Guo, which may question the basis of her being a public official.

“October na ang filing at kung walang kaso pwede pa siya magfile ng certificate of candidacy,” Gatchalian said. 

(Filing of Certificates of Candidacy is in October, and if there is no case, she can still file a Certificate of Candidacy.) 

Gatchalian notes they can cite Guo in contempt if she allegedly continues to lie in the next Senate hearing. 

He adds that the angle of money laundering against the mayor is serious. 

“We will request AMLC (Anti-Money Laundering Council) to present their findings kung kaya but definitely anggulo ng money laundering mabigat. ‘Yang anggulo na yan should be pursued.”

Gatchalian believes there should be a reform in issuing birth documents, such as requiring hospitals to register a birth and ensuring that midwives have licenses. 

The next hearing on POGOs will also delve into the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in Porac, Pampanga.
