MANILA — Senate President Francis Escudero said Monday the Senate will not move to its new headquarters in Taguig this year.

Escudero told reporters he has been telling this to Senate employees as he continues the rounds of Senate offices.

Escudero takes on the job of the Senate's Administrative Head as Senate President.

Escudero said that it is no one's fault but he maintained he does not want the institution to move until the new building is ready.

He prefers that the Senate move during the sine die adjournment so that it does not disrupt work.

"Ang pinakamagandang panahon ng paglipat ay 'pag nag-adjourn ang Senado sine die so ang ta-target-in namin paglipat marahil ay 2025 sine die. Kung 'di aabot doon, 2026 sine die. Kung 'di aabot doon, 2027 sine die. At least may dalawang buwan kami para pormal na maglipat at mag-ayos para pag-resume mas smooth yung takbo ng trabaho," Escudero said.

(The sine die adjournment is the best time so that we have 2 months to move. So we may try during the 2025 sine die adjournment, or the 2026 sine die adjournment or even the 2027 sine die adjournment.)

"Balita ko walang parking. Gusto niyo ba lumipat doon bukas nang walang parking?"

(I heard there's no parking there. Would you want to move there tomorrow without any parking?)

The Senate is currently leasing parts of the GSIS Financial Center in Pasay City.
