House OKs Divorce Bill on second reading

MANILA -- The House of Representatives approved on second reading via voice vote HB 9349, as amended, seeking to reinstitute absolute divorce as an alternative mode for the dissolution of marriage. 

The move came after the period of debate and amendments concluded in Wednesday’s session with lawmakers seen congratulating the bill’s sponsor Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman. 

Meanwhile, voting 188-0, the House approved on third and final reading HB 10178 or the proposed “Overseas Electronic Registration and Voting Act” that seeks to allow overseas Filipinos to register and vote electronically. 

Voting 188-0, House also approved on third and final reading HB 10173 or the proposed “Condominium Redevelopment Act, and HB 10172, strengthening the National Housing Authority, extending its corporate term, and rationalizing its programs to address the housing needs of underserved segments.

Voting 185 yes, 3 no votes, the House approved on third and final reading HB 10158, creating the Manila Bay Aquatic Resources Management Council and appropriating funds therefore.  

Voting 169-1-13, the House approved on third and final reading HB 10086, granting Philippine citizenship to businessman Faiz Sheik and HB 10085, granting Philippine citizenship to priest Stephen Decatur Haines. 

Voting 168-1-13, the House approved on third and final reading HB 10084, granting Philippine citizenship to businessman Wonsuk Heo.
