MANILA — The Davao City Police on Wednesday served the arrest warrants issued by a regional trial court against Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy and his co-accused in their sexual abuse and child abuse cases.

Officers went to the KOJC headquarters to serve the warrant, Davao Region police chief PBGen. Alden Delvo said.

Quiboloy's lawyer Ferdinand Topacio earlier said they would "prepare to avail of all judicial remedies" and thus "refrain from specifically commenting on the aforementioned issues out of respect to the courts."

He urged other parties "to exhibit some sense of common decency at long last by doing the same."

Topacio added, without offering proof, that "some powerful individuals" were "hell-bent on persecuting" Quiboloy.

The Department of Justice earlier said Quiboloy faces charges of sexual abuse and other acts of child abuse, along with Jackielyn Roy, Cresente Canada, Paulene Canada, Ingrid Canada, and Sylvia Cemanes.

The Davao City Prosecutor’s Office had also endorsed a complaint for qualified trafficking in persons against Quiboloy to the DOJ's main office.

The information for qualified trafficking meantime was filed in Pasig City with respondents including  Quiboloy, Roy, Cresente Canada, Paulene Canada, Ingrid Canada and Cemañes.

"The Department of Justice is dedicated to the enforcement of our laws and the protection of our children from exploitation and abuse," Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla earlier said.

Meanwhile, Makabayan bloc lawmakers welcomed the issuance of an arrest warrant against Quiboloy.

The House lawmakers had been pressing the House of Representatives to investigate the Quiboloy-linked Sonshine Media Network International or SMNI, whose franchise to broadcast was revoked by the House last month.

"The charges against Quiboloy are deeply troubling, as they involve allegations of sexual abuse of minors and maltreatment within his organization. It is a stark reminder of how individuals who hold power and influence often exploit and abuse the vulnerable," said Gabriela Party List Rep. Arlene Brosas.
