MANILA -- The Department of Energy (DOE) said Sunday it has ruled out sabotage as the cause for failures in some power plants in the country, amid rising temperatures.

DOE Assistant Secretary Mario Marasigan said they have not seen any signs of sabotage, and that the incidents which hampered the full operation of some power plants were just because of the high demand in electricity.

"Wala po tayong nakikitang gano'ng problema (sabotage). Mataas lang po talaga 'yung demand natin at nakaka-stress 'yun sa system natin, at napipilitan ito na mag-produce ng lahat ng kaya ng ating planta. Kaya sa sobrang init din ay kahit hindi natin inaasahang magkaproblema, nagkakaroon pa rin ng internal problems," Marasigan said in an interview on TeleRadyo Serbisyo.

He added that the plants also sent them reports and pieces of evidence regarding the hampered operations and internal problems, which they deemed "sufficient" enough to cause a problem in its full capacity to operate.

"'Yung mga pinakita sa atin na mga reports nila, sufficient at nakumbinsi tayo na talaga pong internal problem ang nangyari. Mayroong mga pinadalang picture sa atin na talagang pumutok ang kanilang mga boiler tubes kaya kailangan agad nilang ayusin 'yun. Gano'n din sa ibang planta na nakikita natin, patuloy 'yung pagre-repair nila para makabalik na rin sila online and at full capacity," Marasigan said.

The official added that there is currently no forecasted yellow or red alerts on the country's power grid for the upcoming week since the supply for electricity is still at a normal condition.

"Hindi po natin nakikita na magkaroon pa ulit ng yellow or red alert ngunit tayo ay patuloy pa rin sa pag obserba kung ano ang sitwasyon ng ating electric power industry system dahil alam po natin na weekend ngayon kaya mas mababa ang konsumo natin pero papasok ang weekdays at dyan natin inaasahan na tataas muli ang pagkonsumo ng ating kuryente," he said.
