PCG rescues distressed vessel in Quezon; passengers, crew safe

Photo courtesy of the Philippine Coast GuardMANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday rescued a vessel that ran aground in Quezon Province, saving 181 passengers and crew members.

MV Virgen De Peñafrancia II was carrying 29 crew members, 152 passengers, 16 vehicles, and 51 motorcycles at the time of the incident while en route from Real Port to Polillo Port at around 10 a.m. 

According to the crew, the vessel drifted into shallow waters during maneuvering until it reached the sandy seabed near Real Port.

The PCG has conducted an initial oil spill assessment within the vicinity waters and yielded a negative result.

All passengers and crew members have been assessed and were confirmed to be in good physical condition, the PCG noted.
