Pack an umbrella, Kapamilya. The heat index in Metro Manila is forecast to hit up to 40 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, lower than Monday's 42 degree heat index, weather bureau PAGASA said.

Other areas that will be affected by extreme heat include Dagupan City (42 degrees Celsius), Zamboanga City (42 degrees Celsius), Davao City (42 degrees Celsius) and Cotabato City, Maguindanao (41 degrees Celsius)

PAGASA earlier announced the start of the warm and dry season and the end of the northeast monsoon or amihan season last Friday.

Meanwhile, the easterlies will continue to affect the eastern section of the country, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms to the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, and Quezon.
