MANILA (UPDATED) -- The Davao City Prosecutor’s Office has initiated legal proceedings against controversial televangelist Apollo Quiboloy and his associates, who face allegations of sexual and child abuse, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Tuesday.

According to the DOJ, Pastor Quiboloy faces charges of sexual abuse and other acts of child abuse, along with Jackielyn Roy, Cresente Canada, Paulene Canada, Ingrid Canada, and Sylvia Cemanes.

Earlier on Tuesday, Senate President Migz Subiri signed the arrest order against Quiboloy for his refusal to attend a Senate investigation into allegations of sexual abuse against him.

The order cited Quiboloy in contempt and directed him to be detained at the office of the Senate sergeant-at-arms "until such time that he appears and testify" in the investigation.
