"Maganda po 'yun. Ibig sabihin, walang magma na umaangat. 'Yung phreatic eruption nasa bunganga lang po 'yan, meron kang hot material, coming into contact with water. As a result, nagkakaroon ng steaming, nagkaroon ng sudden burst and not as violent as magmatic eruption but can still send ash and rock hanging," Bacolcol said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview.

Phivolcs earlier reported that a phreatic eruption from the Mayon Volcano summit occurred at 4:40 p.m. Sunday and lasted four minutes and nine seconds, based on the seismic record.
