(UPDATED) The camp of Davao-based Pastor Apollo Quiboloy has received the Senate subpoena requiring his attendance in a committee hearing on March 5, 2024.

A screen shot of the subpoena provided Friday by the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, showed the name of Atty. Marie Dinah Tolentino Ferrer, KOJC legal counsel, as the receiving party of the said document.

“By authority of Section 17 of the Rules of Procedure Governing Inquiries in Aid of Legislation of the Senate, Republic of the Philippines, you are hereby commanded and required to appear before the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, then and there to testify under oath on what you know relative to the subject matter under the inquiry by the said Committee, on the date, time and place hereunder indicated,” stated in the Subpoena Ad Testificandum addressed to Quiboloy.

The Senate hearing is scheduled at 10:00 in the morning.

However, there is no statement yet from Quiboloy’s camp if he will participate in the hearing.

Senator Risa Hontiveros, chairperson of the committee, has yet to issue a statement regarding this development.

Prior to the receipt of the subpoena, however, Hontiveros has already underlined the need for Quiboloy to personally attend the hearing or she will have him arrested.

Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Friday urged the self-styled televangelist to come out of hiding.

Gatchalian stressed the importance of respecting Senate proceedings, such as the ongoing investigation led by Hontiveros on Quiboloy’s alleged abuses of his followers.

“He (Quiboloy) should not hide. Kasi nakita ko doon sa YouTube statement nagtatago. Pag nagtago ang isang tao, sign of guilty iyon, eh. So, the best way is to respect the process, pumunta siya, hindi naman ito court na agad na magbibigay ng desisyon,” Gatchalian said.

“Kung pupunta siya sa Senate, hindi dapat siya matakot.”

Gatchalian added that Quiboloy’s arrest order is in the United States and not in the Philippines.

“Wala pa namang warrant…wala pa namang extradition saka warrant na issue against him eh. it’s only the subpoena from the Senate and I think, House rin... And the Senate will not entertain possibility of online testimony,” Gatchalian said. -with a report from Sherrie Ann Torres, ABS-CBN News
