MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard announced Thursday it has regained access to its official X (formerly Twitter) account after it was briefly compromised.

PCG said it regained access to its X account after nearly 40 minutes.

"As of 11:30AM, we are glad to announce that we have retrieved access to our official X account with assistance from the X Support Team," it said.

The PCG posts reports on maritime affairs on its X account, including updates on the West Philippine Sea.

The agency said it has strengthened security measures to protect the account against security breaches.

On Tuesday, the Department of Information and Communications Technology said cybercriminals used spyware in their failed attempts to infiltrate various websites and emails of the Philippine government in January, including that of the PCG.
