Kim Hong-ji / POOL / AFP/file MANILA —  South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will have a state visit in the Philippines on October 6 to 7 for a bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Invited by Marcos Jr. himself, it will be the first standalone bilateral visit of a Republic of Korea (ROK)'s president in the country since 2011.

According to the Presidential Communications Office on Thursday, Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will officially welcome Yoon and First lady Kim Keon Hee during the ceremonies at the Malacañang Palace on October 7.

The leaders are set to discuss areas of mutual interest like coordination in the political, security and defense, maritime, economic and development fields, people-to-people ties, as well as labor and consular matters. 

As Yoon's state visit coincides with the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, South Korean Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa said it marks an important moment to symbolize strong bond and form even greater partnerships.
