Palace suspends classes, gov’t work in Luzon on Oct. 23 due to ‘Kristine’

Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN NewsMANILA (UPDATED) — Classes in all levels and work in government offices in Luzon are suspended on Wednesday, October 23, due to the inclement weather brought by tropical storm Kristine, Malacañang announced Tuesday night.

According to the post by the Office of the Executive Secretary, suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.

Agencies whose function involve delivery of basic and health services, as well as disaster response and preparedness, shall continue with their operations.

Work in the House of Representatives has also been suspended on Monday, according to an advisory from its secretary-general.

"Only essential personnel as determined by their respective Deputy Secretaries General or the Sergeant-at-Arms shall render service," Reginald Velasco said.

As of 11 p.m., “Kristine” was last located 345 kilometers east northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour, with gusts of up to 90 kph.

It is moving northwestward at 10 kph, and  is forecast to make landfall over Isavela or northern Aurora Wednesday night or early Thursday morning.

Signal No. 2 is currently hoisted over Cagayan Valley region, Bicol region, parts of Northern Samar and Eastern Samar, while Signal No. 1 is raised over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, parts of eastern and western Visayas, Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte.

Kristine is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Friday.
