Tropical Depression Kristine maintained its strength Monday while moving west southwestward over the Philippine Sea.

At 10 a.m., Kristine was located 870 km east of Eastern Visayas with maximum winds of 55 kph and gusts up to 70 kph. It is moving west southwestward at 30 kph. Strong winds from the disturbance reach up to 550 km from its center.

Wind Signal No. 1 is now raised in 15 provinces in Southern Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

The weather disturbance will move generally northwestward in the next few days and continuously intensify up to typhoon strength before making landfall over Cagayan Friday morning.

Many parts of the country will be soaked this Monday due to the system’s trough or extension. Flooding and landslides are expected.
