The First Couple were welcomed by General (Ret.) Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Indonesia’s Minister of Home Affairs, along with officials from the Indonesian government and representatives of the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia.

Outgoing Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited Marcos Jr. to the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Vice President-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka of the Republic of Indonesia, the Palace said in a statement.

"The attendance of President Marcos and the First Lady at the inauguration of the Indonesian President and Vice President reaffirms the deep and enduring friendship between the two nations, founded on close people-to-people ties," the statement read.

"As a fellow founding member of the ASEAN, Indonesia is one of the Philippines' long standing partners in the region," it read.

"The President's attendance in the inauguration also signifies the Philippines' sincere commitment to further expand and deepen bilateral relations."

The incoming Indonesian vice president is the son of Widodo, and replaces his father who has served several terms as president of Southeast Asia's largest economy.

In 2022, Marcos Jr. chose to fly to Indonesia for his first state visit, saying that the choice emphasizes how his administration values the Philippines' ties with the so-called big brother of Southeast Asia.

In January 2024, Widodo visited the Philippines to reaffirm Manila and Jakarta's close relations.
