MANILA — Gabriela Women's Party and various groups gathered on World Foodless Day to protest the privatization of public markets, citing increased costs and limited access to affordable food as major concerns.

They held a noise barrage in front of Litex Public Market to denounce what they said was the severe impact of public market privatization on vendors, small business owners, porters, and local producers.

Arlene Brosas said.

Brosas warned that more markets across the country are facing the threat of privatization, through public-private partnerships (PPPs).

She argued that this could lead to a rise in corporate monopolies within the business sector, posing a risk of driving small enterprises into bankruptcy.

Meanwhile, the women’s group also has a pending resolution urging the committee on local government to conduct an investigation on the privatization of public markets.

Gabriela Women's Party vowed to amplify its campaign against the privatization of public markets and other essential services.
