MANILA (UPDATE) – A structure inside the compound of the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) caught fire in Quezon City on Friday.

Bureau of Fire Protection said the fire started at the structure housing of the engineering department of the hospital compound, around 2 p.m.

The blaze was placed under control at 2:32 p.m., TXTFirePhilippines said. No one was reported injured.

Authorities pegged the cost of damage from the blaze at P300,000.

The Bureau of Fire Protection said the blaze reached third alarm and firemen scrambled to contain the fire as the hospital was near a gasoline depot.

Initial investigation revealed that the blaze started at an area where flammable materials were stored. VMMC’s operation was not affected as the blaze did not occur in the hospital building. – with a report from Jon Ibañez, DZMM
