MANILA - Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday said President Rodrigo Duterte would look into the controversial P6-million Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Christmas party.

In a press briefing Thursday, Roque said he would personally communicate with PCSO officials to verify the information.

"I have no information yet because media reported that this was a statement attributed to Directress Sandra Cam," Roque told reporters.

“I think you know that the President does not tolerate extravagance. As you know, he’s very sensitive to what is reported by his own people in the different branches of government,” he added.

Sandra Cam, who Duterte appointed as a member of PCSO's Board of Directors, had disclosed that the agency spent P10 million for the party held at the Edsa Shangri-La Hotel in Mandaluyong on Dec. 19.

PCSO General Manager Alexander Balutan then clarified that the agency spent only P6 million, according to a newspaper report.

Cam, who had blown the whistle on the jueteng payola scandal in 2005, skipped the "grandiose" party in protest of the controversial spending. -- Reports from Dharel Placido and Dexter Ganibe
