Malacañang admitted Tuesday that it is still seeking confirmation on where President Rodrigo Duterte had sourced the P100,000 to P400,000 Christmas bonus that he reportedly gave to each star rank police official.
"Hindi pa po nako-confirm kung saan galing iyan. But definitely, it comes from the President. Mayroon siyang sariling fund. That's all I can say at this stage but I cannot say it's fully confirmed," presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella told radio DZMM.
(It's not yet certain where the funds came from. But definitely, it came from the President, he has his own funds. That's all I can say at this stage but I cannot say it's fully confirmed.)
Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Ronald "Bato" dela Rosa on Monday said Duterte gave up to P400,000 to officers in the star rank and P50,000 to officials below this level.
Dela Rosa did not specify where the bonuses were sourced although he said this may have come from the President's intelligence funds.
Abella promised to make his "best effort" in confirming the fund's source and whether the Christmas bonuses have already been distributed to PNP's top tier.
Asked why the bonus was offered to only high-ranking officials, Abella also guaranteed, "We'll find out, I'm sure may logical basis naman po iyan."
