MANILA - (UPDATED) The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Monday reassigned 44 ranking personnel, including LTFRB-Metro Manila Director Rodolfo Jaucian, due to allegations of irregularity and corruption.

This, after investigation revealed a "ghost database" and other anomalies within the the LTFRB-National Capital Region Office, agency chairman Martin Delgra said.

Delgra explained they inspected LTFRB-NCR headquarters after a complainant accused four officials of extorting P280,000 from him.

The ghost database they found paves the way for the anomalous release of transport franchises despite an ongoing moratorium, Delgra said.

A physical inspection of the LTFRB-NCR headquarters also showed that some important documents were being kept in a pantry instead of the records section.

The misplaced documents may be connected to unauthorized transactions, said Delgra.

The LTFRB chief apologized to the public as operations may be adversely affected by the ongoing investigation.

LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada, meanwhile, said some officials tagged in the allegations have stepped down from their posts.

Two officials, whom the LTFRB declined to identify, refused to resign and were reassigned to Mindanao. -- Report from Jeff Hernaez, DZMM
