The construction of the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), which will connect Cebu City to Cordova municipality on Mactan island, is almost halfway finished, the project's officials said.

In a press briefing on Friday, Allan Alfon of the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corp. (CCLEC) said that they are already in the construction stage, which is equivalent to 47.32 percent completion.

Two towers that will link the main bridge and the existing south coastal road viaduct are already built, as CCLEC is on the verge of creating another viaduct to connect the main bridge to Cordova.

Cordova is an island town adjacent to Lapu-Lapu City where the airport of Cebu province is located. CCLEX was proposed to decongest traffic from mainland Cebu to Lapu-Lapu.

"We are working hard so that the Cebuanos will have the bridge by its committed time,"said Alfon.

The bridge is expected to be finished by 2021.

Alfon said they are on schedule and that no delays occurred in the project except for some minor "challenges," which he said are immaterial to them.

They are also working on a traffic plan to make sure there are no build-ups to traffic flow from Cebu City and Cordova side.

The bridge will be handled by CCLEC for 35 years until it is turned over to government for its management.
