President Duterte is to appear in Caloocan City for the celebration of Bonifacio Day today, just a day after a court in the city handed down the first conviction of policemen involved in extrajudicial killings in the Duterte administration. Here are the stories ANC will be covering today:

Justice for Kian

Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra said the conviction of Kian’s killers debunked myth of impunity in the drug war. PNP Chief Dir. Gen. Oscar Albayalde said it’s a reminder for police to be diligent. Interior and Local Government Sec. Eduardo Ano said it’s a warning to cops. With Kian’s killers on their way to jail, where is the war on drugs headed? Vice President Leni Robredo is seeking a probe of other drug killings after the conviction. PNP spokesperson Sr. Supt. Benigno Durana will be on ANC’s Early Edition to talk about where the PNP is going after the first conviction in the Duterte administrations war on drugs.

For the Great Plebeian

The President is scheduled to appear at the Bonifacio Day celebrations in Caloocan at 3:30 p.m. ANC will be ready to air the proceedings live. There will also be protests throughout the day.

Taking back a recommendation

The economic team will take back its recommendation to stop the second round of fuel tax hikes next year. How will this impact oil companies, fares and the prices of goods? And what about the political implications of the move as local elections are scheduled next year? Will it affect the chances of administration candidates? Budget and Management Sec. Ben Diokno will be on ANC’s Headstart to talk about the reenacted budget and the fuel tax hike.

Form of harassment?

Former Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo and around 70 others will face charges for alleged abduction, child abuse and trafficking. Ocampo’s group was arrested in Talaingod, Davao del Norte on Thursday with 14 minors who they said they rescued during a humanitarian mission. Their supporters say the arrest was illegal and a form of harassment. The arrest comes as the government and communist rebels struggle to jump start peace talks between the two sides.

Victims of crimes

ANC will provide updates on the investigation into the murder of businessman Dominic Sytin in Subic. A clear motive and suspects have yet to be identified. On Thursday night, the SWS released a survey that revealed that 1.4 million Filipinos are victims of common crimes.
