MANILA -- (UPDATED) The chief of the intelligence section of the Pasay City police was killed on Sunday while arresting a suspect in the 2017 killing of a ride-sharing driver.
The team of Senior Insp. Manuel Taytayon Jr. was about to apprehend Narc "Nico" Delemios when the suspect shot at the police official inside a house in Barangay 148.
Taytayon was able to shoot back at Delemios before he fell to the ground.
Delemios was found on the fourth floor of the house along Don Carlos Revilla Street.
Delemios, who admitted to killing a Grab driver in 2017, died on the spot while the police official died in the hospital due to several gunshot wounds in his body.
Authorities said the police decided to launch a follow-up operation against Delemios after they got reliable information about the whereabouts of the suspect.
Delemios had already been arrested last year for killing "good Samaritan" Grab driver Gerardo Maquidato. However, he was able to escape from jail.
