Ronnie Dayan, Senator Leila de Lima's alleged bagman and former driver, had been hiding in Bacnotan, La Union for months, his relatives told ABS-CBN News.

Dayan's relatives said he had been hiding in Bacnotan, La Union since the drug issue came out in August, according to a DZMM report by ABS-CBN reporter Lady Vicencio.

He reportedly told a sibling, a barangay official, about his desire to surrender to authorities so they asked the Pangasinan Police's provincial director to ensure his safety.

The Pangasinan police on Tuesday then went to his hiding place in Bacnotan, where he voluntarily surrendered. He reportedly sat under a tree in the middle of a field of crops while waiting for them.

Dayan, who is with his wife and sibling, and the police are currently on the way to Lingayen. The report said Dayan had lost weight.

An arrest warrant was issued against Dayan after he failed to appear in a House inquiry on the alleged narcotics trade inside the national penitentiary, where several witnesses said De Lima asked convicted crime lords to sell drugs to beef up her campaign kitty for the 2010 senatorial elections.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said Dayan's capture will "tie up the loose ends and supply the missing links" in the cases filed before his department.

"It is also a chance for Mr. Dayan to clear his name so we encourage him to tell the whole truth of what he knows," he said.
