MANILA - An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) lost more than P300,000 in cash and personal belongings inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on Tuesday.

Germelie Martin had just arrived from Hong Kong where she works as a domestic helper (DH) when the incident took place.

She said a woman befriended her while she was waiting at the departure area for a connecting flight to Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

In her complaint filed before the Police Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Airport Police Department, Martin said the woman somehow managed to convince her to withdraw money from a nearby ATM. She also gave her jewelry, passport, and cell phone to the suspect.

Martin said she had planned to use the money to reclaim a pawned property.

"Pinaghirapan ko po ang pera bilang isang DH pero ninakaw lang po nang walang kapagod-pagod," she said.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Ed Monreal told ABS-CBN News that the victim identified the suspect through a rogues' gallery.

Authorities arrested the suspect in a follow-up operation. Recovered from her were some stolen items and cash amounting to P65,000.

Monreal said the suspect, whose name was withheld pending the filing of a formal complaint in court, was also involved in other incidents victimizing returning OFWs.

A complaint of theft and resisting arrest will be filed against the suspect. - report from Raoul Esperas
