MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) will "gladly abide" once the court orders the arrest of former first lady and Ilocos Norte Rep. Imelda Marcos, its chief said Friday.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said this after the Sandiganbayan found Marcos guilty of graft.

"We will wait for the order of the court. Kung talagang may utos 'yung korte (if there is a court order) to arrest her, then we will gladly abide by the order of the court," he told reporters.

The anti-graft court had found Marcos guilty of 7 counts of graft by the Sandiganbayan for using her Cabinet position to maintain Swiss bank accounts during her late husband Ferdinand Marcos' regime.

She was sentenced to imprisonment of 6 years and a month to 11 years for each of the 7 counts, with perpetual disqualification from public office.

The Marcos matriarch in a statement Friday said her lawyer plans to appeal the court's decision.

Albayalde added that if arrested and detained, the 89-year-old Marcos would not be given special attention.

"Kung sa amin siya, sabi ko sana then she will be treated as a normal [prisoner] sa amin. Wala naman tayong binibigyang special attention diyan," he said.

(If she will be held in our facility then she will be treated as a normal [prisoner]. We don't give special treatment.)
