MANILA - Eduardo Año on Monday took his oath as secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) after serving for 10 months as the department’s officer-in-charge.

Año took his oath before President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday afternoon, just a few days after the mandatory one year ban on the appointment of resigned or retired military officials as secretary lapsed.

Año was supposed to assume the DILG top post last June 2017, replacing the sacked Ismael Sueno, but the Marawi conflict which erupted on May 23 that year prevented him from taking on his new role.

He was appointed by the President as DILG undersecretary in October 2017 before leading the department in January 2018 in an OIC capacity.

Año took his oath on the same day as newly appointed Cabinet Secertary Karlo Nograles, a last-termer representative of Davao City who is a distant relative of the Dutertes.
