According to Phivolcs, the quake struck at around 3:55 p.m. Its epicenter was located a kilometer northwest of the town of Balindong.

Phivolcs earlier reported that the quake's center was located at 10 kilometers northwest of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur's capital.
