MANILA – Members of the "Masidlawin" Class of 2020 gained their peers' acceptance after receiving "handshakes of recognition" in a unique, traditional Philippine Military Academy (PMA) recognition ceremony.

The Masidlawin class, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), was in the bottom rung of the PMA's hierarchy of cadet classes. The class included trainees and freshmen.

The ceremony showed the class members’ acceptance to the level of a Cadet "in terms of deportment, maturity, soldiery, and other attributes of a future AFP Officer," the AFP said.

With their new status as "recognized cadets," they can now, among other things, grow more hair, and speak to senior cadets in a conversational manner. They will also no longer need to "trot" to a destination via a lengthy route.
