MANILA—A father and his three children — aged 8, 10 and 12 — died after they were buried in a landslide in Barangay Batad, Banaue, Ifugao, on Tuesday as severe tropical storm Rosita hit northern Luzon.

The victims were identified as Baltazar Pinnay, 48, and his children Rydbell, Rhezel, and Rexibelle, according to the Ifugao Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).

The mother and four siblings were spared because they stayed on the other side of the house, the agency said.

Authorities were clearing road debris along the Kinakin-Ducligan Road but only received a report of the incident at 7 p.m., when cellphone signal became available.

A meeting was held regarding the incident, the PDRRMO said.

Another landslide killed 3 people and buried more than 20 others in nearby Mountain Province.
