MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte and his delegation who condoled with the Barretto clan last week were "shocked" after they witnessed a scuffle among relatives during the wake of family's patriarch Miguel, Senator Bong Go said Wednesday.

Celebrity siblings Gretchen and Marjorie Barretto, as well as some of their nieces and nephews, broke into a fight in front of Duterte last week, after the President tried to mend ties between the sisters who have been at odds for half a decade.

"Na-shock din kami nung nakita namin. Parang shooting [ng pelikula] din," Go, who was with Duterte at the wake, told Senate reporters.

Go confirmed Marjorie's claim that she apologized to the President in one corner after members of the Presidential Security Group cordoned the chief executive to safety.

The senator said he was unsure who started the fight.

"Baka tawagin pa nila ako as witness, wag na lang," he said in jest. "Hindi ko nakita kasi ang focus ko nandun lang kay Presidente."

Gretchen, the eldest Barretto sibling, earlier said the scuffle began after a fuming Marjorie approached her while their niece Nicole tried to physically attack her. Marjorie belied the allegation and blamed their youngest sister Claudine for starting the confrontation.

Go said he was willing to "mediate" between the Barretto sisters, but noted that he was unsure if the 2 siblings were willing to cross paths again.
