The Moroboro Dam in Dingle, Iloilo on Friday opened 9 of its 13 gates to release a large volume of water coming from the upstream of Jalaur River.

The water level in the dam had reached 24 meters above sea level critical point on Thursday, forcing the National Irrigation Administration Iloilo to open the water gates.

The release of water from Moroboro dam has alerted the residents in the towns of Dingle, Pototan, Barotac Nuevo, Zarraga, and Leganes for possible occurrence of flashfloods.

Heavy rains have been pouring in the province of Iloilo for the last 3 days due to northwest monsoon, enhanced by typhoon Paolo.
