MANILA - Two former governors of Cavite are set to face off in next year's race for the province's top post.
Jonvic Remulla, who was governor from 2010 to 2016, filed his certificate of candidacy for the position on Monday.
He was accompanied by his running mate, actor Jolo Revilla, who is seeking a third term as vice governor.
Remulla is expected to run against former governor Erineo "Ayong" Maliksi, who was persuaded to join the gubernatorial race by throngs of supporters who flocked to his farm today.
Maliksi said he will register his candidacy for governor on Wednesday, October 17.
Maliksi was governor from 2001 to 2010. He ran for governor again in 2013, but lost to Remulla.
Remulla's brother Boying Remulla succeeded him as governor in 2016. The outgoing official will run for Congress representative of the seventh district in the May polls.
