MANILA - President Rodrigo Duterte announced that he has fired another set of government officials.

Duterte said he fired the two officials for not acting on papers that resulted in the delay of a bridge project in San Juan City.

“May dalawa dito na isang taon na halos ‘yung papel. At ‘yun pa namang papel na ‘yung construction firm, na siya ang gagawa ng bridge across San Juan,” Duterte said in a recorded interview aired on state-run television on Friday evening.

He did not name the officials.

Duterte said he was approached by officials from the construction firm involved in the project, prompting him to confront the two officials, who he did not name.

The President said the two officials gave him an explanation for the delays which he found to be illogical.

“Masama talaga ang ginawa nitong dalawa. It delayed the project,” Duterte said.

“So, for almost so many months, nagmamadali nga tayo so that we can have the mobility of the people of Metro Manila moving faster. Itong dalawa, inupuan ‘yan almost one year.”

“Kaya sabi ko, while they sent me a letter apologizing for the delay, I’m telling them now --- dito ngayon sa TV --- I have fired you actually,” he added.

The President recently fired two Palace officials for supposed influence-peddling.

He had also sacked former Abakada party-list representative Jonathan dela Cruz as member of the Government Service Insurance Service System (GSIS) board member for alleged corruption.
