MANILA - Batanes Representative Henedina "Dina" Abad, wife of former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad, passed away late Sunday.

"Dina, as she was known to family and friends, devoted her life to the cause of the Filipino people, and she did so with passion, conviction, and integrity until the end. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones," her office said in a statement released Monday.

Leaders of the Liberal Party (LP) will deliver eulogies for Abad after a Mass at the Ateneo de Manila's chapel in Quezon City at 8 p.m. Monday, LP secretary general and Quezon City Rep. Jose Christopher "Kit" Belmonte said in a statement.

Vice President Leni Robredo, chairperson of LP, took to social media to mourn Abad's death.

"You will be terribly missed, Congresswoman Dina Abad. The nation lost another treasure," Robredo wrote on Facebook.

Several lawmakers also paid tribute to Abad on Twitter.

Prior to becoming a lawmaker, Abad was the dean of Ateneo School of Government. She also worked for various non-government organizations and civil groups.

Abad graduated cum laude at Maryknoll College with a degree in Economics. She also obtained a Masters in Public Administration at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Abad was survived by her husband and 4 children.
