MANILA - Commuters can avail of free bus rides from Santolan to Cubao starting Friday, the Light Rail Authority said, a day after a fire hit one of the LRT-2's power transformers that prompted its halt of operations.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority provided four buses to ferry passengers, the LRTA said.

"Please be advised that a FREE bus ride from @MMDA will be ready to service passengers from the Santolan footbridge to bring them to Cubao area. Have a safe trip," it said.

LRTA spokesperson Hernando Cabrera earlier said they are planning to resume partial operations of the LRT-2 but said it would be a "major challenge" as the maintenance facilities are on the other end of the line in Santolan Station.

"Nakulong po ang 7 tren sa area between Recto and Anonas. Ang maintenance facilities po natin ay nasa sa Santolan, which is hindi sila makakatawid dun sa area sa Katipunan," he said.

(Seven trains were stuck between Recto and Anonas stations. Our maintenance facilities are in Santolan. They can't cross Katipunan to Santolan.)
