MANILA - Former Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte will run for congressman next year, his sister, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said Monday.

This ends speculation as to what track President Rodrigo Duterte's eldest son will take this coming midterm election.

"Sa congressman for the first district si Former Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte," his sibling told reporters.

The mayor also said she will seek re-election despite landing among the top 12 preferred potential senatorial candidates in a recent Pulse Asia survey.

"I am honored and overwhelmed by the trust of the people but I will run as mayor this coming elections," she said.

The mayor said she has chosen a running mate, but declined to reveal who it is.

Her brother Paolo resigned as vice mayor last Christmas Day after a public squabble with his daughter and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV's accusation that he was part of a Chinese drug ring, which he denied.
