MANILA- Typhoon Paeng has maintained its strength as it moves away from the Philippine area of responsibility, the state weather bureau said Friday.

As of 10 a.m., PAGASA said the eye of the typhoon was spotted 655 kilometers east, northeast of Basco, Batanes.

Paeng, which is expected to exit the country by Saturday morning, continues to pack maximum sustained winds of up to 160 km per hour near the center and gusts of up to 195 kph.

While there are no tropical cyclone warning signals hoisted, PAGASA warned that sea travel remains risky over the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon and the eastern seaboard of Visayas.
