MANILA—Senator Sonny Angara is the new president of Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), the political party founded by his late father, former Senate President Edgardo Angara.
In a statement, Angara said his election as president of the party allows him to continue his father's aspirations for the country.
The elder Angara died in May.
“Sa totoo nga, dapat magsilbing inspirasyon ang aking ama para patuloy nating isulong ang mga mahahalagang reporma,” he said.
(My father should serve as an inspiration to continue the reforms for this country.)
Among the reforms the younger Angara plans to promote include widening access to education, better job opportunities, universal health care, and universal social pension for senior citizens.
LDP was founded in 1988.
