MANILA—A low-pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Visayas intensified into a tropical depression early Wednesday, state weather bureau PAGASA said.

The tropical depression is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Wednesday and will be named Marilyn, weather specialist Meno Mendoza said.

The weather disturbance was located 1,180 east of Visayas, based on PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin. It is packing 45 kilometer per hour (kph) maximum sustained winds, with gusts of up to 55 kph.

The trough or extension of the tropical depression will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Bicol Region and the provinces of Quezon and Aurora.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or habagat, which continues to prevail over Luzon, will also bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Zambales and Bataan.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
