MANILA -- Israel could be eyeing the Philippines as a new destination for military exports, an analyst said Sunday as President Rodrigo Duterte flies to the Middle Eastern country.

Neri Zilber, a Washington Institute for Near East Policy fellow, said Duterte's trip to Israel may help strengthen ties between the two countries, especially in the campaign against terrorism.

"I think Israel is eyeing the Philippines as the new destination for military exports. So these arms industries are actually quite keen on that, as well as perhaps Israeli support for a legitimate counter-terror campaign in the southern Philippines," he told ANC.
